caelean asked: Are large families common in the mythological world? The Tragos and Finn families seem to be really extensive.

Answer:

It depends on the family/species. Individually, bugbears are loners, but they keep extensive track of their family members, mostly so they don’t accidentally date their half-sibling or something. Satyrs and fauns are really social creatures and tend to have large/close-knit families. It varies!

Anonymous asked: what do you think of Soulmate's? if anyone in the comic has a Soulmate who and with who? Also who do you crackship?

Answer:

can you crackship your own creations or would that just be canon

also is “Soulmate” like a term for something specific or just like “people who dig each other and will live with each other forever.” If it’s the latter then probably Blanche’s parents. They’re pretty much made for each other. Literally! Hah hah! GET IT??

it’s a pun because they were literally made for each other (by Sfé)

wildwomanworking asked: Hi! I really like your comic and it helped me get motivated to do work my own sort of modern fantasy comics I had been letting flounder! Also: I really really LOVE your bugbears! Would it be cool to do a Myra the One Eyed Bear cosplay?!

Answer:

Only if you take pictures and show them to me!!! I would LOVE to see a Myra costume! :D

cerula asked: As far as that 'living on the grid' question I would think that there is some kind of special service that can provide them with birth certificates and the like in secret maybe? Like some mythical creatures with natural shapeshifting powers or medallions would work secretly within the human government to do the paperwork and stuff. I dunno thats just how I figured it'd work. Sort of a headcanon if you will.

Answer:

Yeah I would assume that there would be mythical creatures with jobs in those fields who can supply folks with official documents, but I don’t really want to focus on that sorta thing right now because 1) I don’t have enough knowledge on those sorts of things and 2) I don’t want to focus on that in the comic! :) There’s a subject for a fanfiction for you!

frodis-baggins asked: SUPER SRS QUESTION TIEM. Do people write Skin Deep fanfiction? If so, how do you feel about it? Do you have a favorite?

Answer:

I’ve seen a couple, but there aren’t many! Sure I’d read them if I found them. :)

Anonymous asked: Because of the names of the canon bugbears I figured they were mostly Germanic. Am I wrong? And as far as social security numbers, birth certificates and all of those kinds of things I just assumed that each group has some people that can make really good fakes, magically or otherwise.

Answer:

The two canon bugbear families in the comic so far are Hyde and Reinkemeyer. Hyde is a super English name, as the Hydes are super English and proper bugbears. Myra’s a Reinkemeyer because she’s from a super German part of Missouri where all the family names are super German, and I assume that somewhere down the line some German peeps got into the family.

Anonymous asked: yO IT JUST OCCURRED TO ME THAT NON- HUMAN BORN MYTHICAL CREATURES WOULDN'T HAVE BIRTH CERTIFICATES?? That probably makes living as humans difficult!

Answer:

There’s a lot about the little details of Skin Deep that don’t hold up if you look at them too closely so I advise you to not think about things like social security numbers or birth certificates or anything about living on “the grid” when it comes to magic monster people. It will just make your head hurt.

boxesofboxesofinternet asked: Would an uncommon griffon need an amulet for their specific combination or is there just a general uncommon griffon amulet?

Answer:

“Uncommon gryphon” is it’s own thing, so they just need an uncommon gryphon medallion. Otherwise they’d probably not have medallions at all.
